About The Church
Guthrie was one of the earliest Christian sites in Angus. A community of Culdees were there before the beginning of the 11th Century. They were a monastic order from a Celtic background.
The first Parish Church was built here in 1150 as a prebend of Brechin Cathedral, just to the south of the present Church. The Church was extended by Sir David Guthrie. The new Church was opened and dedicated on the 3rd of December 1826.
Of course, the church is now welcoming visitors as a place of historical interest for Guthries and anyone interested in its story, alongside its continued use for weddings, funerals, and other celebrations. As part of the Guthrie Heritage SCIO, the church is open every Sunday for visitors, with other visits available by arrangement.
