About The Church
Guthrie was one of the earliest Christian sites in Angus. A community of Culdees were there before the beginning of the 11th Century. They were a monastic order from a Celtic background.
The first Parish Church was built here in 1150 as a prebend of Brechin Cathedral, just to the south of the present Church. The Church was extended by Sir David Guthrie. The new Church was opened and dedicated on the 3rd of December 1826.
Of course, now the church is welcoming visitors as a place of historical interest for Guthrie's and anyone interested in addition to being used for celebrations such as weddings and funerals - as part of the Guthrie Heritage SCIO.
